Foreword by Kenneth McGillivray
The Association of Pacific Rim Universities, a consortium of world-class research universities in the Pacific Rim consists of 37 members across the Americas, Asia and Australasia. APRU seeks to add value to our programs and activities by promoting teaching, research and enterprise globally.
The 2nd APRU Chief Information Officers conference marks the continuation of a very successful inaugural session at University of Southern California in March 2007. I am very pleased that the CIO Network will continue to enhance the development of middleware and infrastructural best practices to link networks of our disparate member institutions.
It is hoped that through this second meeting of IT leaders and senior administrators across member institutions, APRU members can learn from one another in developing standards and practices, and to facilitate resource-sharing and collaboration.
The merging of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure is a challenge faced by member universities in our association. I hope that we can better explore and experiment with ways to collaborate with one another beyond the bilateral, and find diverse and innovative solutions for issues commonly confronting our individual institutions.
I thank University of Indonesia for hosting the 2008 conference and the Program Committee for their fine efforts in putting together a substantive and exciting program. I wish all participants a very successful meeting and look forward to seeing effective partnerships based on inter-institutional ICT support and utilization of growing global infrastructure.
