Welcome Message
APRU CIO CONFERENCE 2008
University of Indonesia, Jakarta, 16-18 April 2008
University of Indonesia, Jakarta, 16-18 April 2008
We warmly welcome you to the 2nd annual Chief Information Officers Conference sponsored by the Association of Pacific Rim Universities and the APRU CIO Network. This year's event is hosted by the University of Indonesia, and will build on the success of our first conference at the University of Southern California in April of 2007. The conference comes as a result of a close collaboration between the APRU Secretariat, the APRU CIO program committee, and the University of Indonesia host committee.
Our host, the University of Indonesia, is a major University in Indonesia and the flag bearer of the country. Indonesia is the 4th largest country in the world in terms of population and is an archipelagic state that covers 1/8 of the equator. During the last few years the University of Indonesia has enthusiastically participated in the APRU network and is very interested in being part of international initiatives. During this time the university's academic and administration processes have also been transformed and web-based information systems have been installed to ensure that the vision of the university can be achieved. Information and Communication Technology is seen as one of the major drivers to allow the university to reach its goals.
The University of Indonesia has two campuses, one in central Jakarta and the new campus in Depok, a satellite city in south Jakarta. The Depok campus has been declared a green campus and accommodates most of the 12 faculties and one postgraduate school. The university has 39,000 students and a staff of approximately 4,500. Information Technology plays an important part in the work of several programs, including the Global Learning Development Network of the World Bank, and the UI-Huawei Research and Training Center. Several IT Training Centers are also located at the University of Indonesia. Indonesia is rich with traditional cultures, namely Balinese, Javanese, Minangkabau, Batak, and over 200 tribes dispersed on more than 13,000 islands. It is our pleasure to welcome you to Jakarta and Depok, which is located in West Java.
APRU CIO Conference offers a unique opportunity for IT leaders from member institutions to gather and discuss topics of common interest, as well as build a "human network" that can form the basis for continued work together. Our goal is to develop collaborative partnerships among APRU CIOs that will allow us to better support the academic partnerships that will take place among our Presidents, faculty, and students.
The conference program this year is comprised of CIO Briefings, keynote talks, discussion, workshops, demonstrations and poster session, presentations from CIOs, and a relaxed atmosphere for information sharing and team building. There will also be opportunities for CIOs to continue conversation on topics of mutual interest after the conference.
We look forward to seeing APRU CIOs and their senior staff in Jakarta, Indonesia, on April 16-19, 2008 (View here for CIO 2008 brochure), as well as the extension program in Bali after the meeting.
Enjoy your visit to Jakarta and the Indonesian Archipelago.
